GRIDLOCK, THY NAME IS THE EDGE

U2
Ladies, Bono; Bono, ladies.

From the sound of things, it’s already a logjam around Sam Boyd Stadium for tonight’s U2 show. A few tickets were released yesterday (some going for more than $300), but it sounds like you were going to have to decamp for the east side yesterday to make the 7 p.m. show.

U2 is on the short list of bands who can sell out Sam Boyd and its 36,800 capacity, and they’re certainly the only one with a stage setup so complicated they’re barely about to break even on the tour.

It does make us wonder, though, why more big acts don’t make use of the facility. The Stones and Who, when they were last here, were at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. Springsteen, who was last here in 2002, played the much smaller Thomas and Mack Center. Fellow Jerseyite Bon Jovi’s next stop is at the MGM. Why no love for the Boyd? Is this about Vegoose? This is probably about Vegoose, isn’t it?

If you can’t make the show, they’ll be streaming their Rose Bowl concert Sunday night live on YouTube. Will.i.am of opening act the Black Eyed Peas spins tonight for Z-Trip’s Revolution at Rain, while The Bank has the official Black Eyed Peas afterparty. That is, if you needed to see the Black Eyed Peas some more after watching their elephant-on-the-moon commercial roughly 40,000 times since the start of the baseball playoffs.
