X Factor finalist Chris Rene was at Pure last night to show off some truly, truly unfortunate tattoos.

He hit the stage around 1:30 to do “Fame & Fortune,” (?) “Same Blood” and “Young Homie” for a crowd that included the boob-tacular Katie Price. Remind us again why the guy on the karaoke contest show was the star of this particular attraction?

Hey, you know when you have too much to drink and suddenly terrible ideas seem like awesome ones? We’ve heard some people say alcohol eats away at your judgment – though we’ve always attributed it to vile humours and foul daemons that need to be exorcised with more booze.

Turns out the folks at Sad and Useless have finally figured it out – when you get drunk enough you can actually hear the liquor talking to you. And it turns out that liquor is a jerk! See more pictures of scumbag booze.

Lily Tomlin, whose next role should be “your mom’s crazy best friend after two glasses of white wine,” was at the Smith Center yesterday to do her one-woman show, The Search for Signs of Intelligent Life in the Universe. Let’s ignore the fact that it looks like she’s auditioning for the most boring Mummenschanz production ever and instead reflect on our favorite Lily Tomlin moment: That time she ripped David O. Russell a new one and made him go into full-on ragemonkey mode.

Local band’s tribute to Beastie Boys’ MCA

Saturday night, Vans hosted a screening of the recent documentary No Room For Rockstars. The film was followed by a performance by local band Hardpack, who began their set with a cover of the Beastie Boy’s hit “Sabotage” in honor of MCA’s death last week.

Here’s the beginning of Hardpack’s cover of Sabotage:

No Room For Rockstars gives a behind-the-scenes look at The Warped Tour, an American concert series. The documentary details the struggle, and not-so-glamorous life, of months on the road performing music.

The venue for the screening and band show was the newly relocated Hidden Agenda. The space, which contains a largish open area and a simple stage, is one of the only venues in the city dedicated to live music.

Housed in the former factory district of Ngau Tau Kok, it is indeed hidden!

Getting to Hidden Agenda isn’t actually that difficult. It’s about a five block walk from Ngau Tau Kok MTR station exit B6.

The entrance looks exactly as you would imagine, a warehouse with a small metal gate that’s open after-hours.

Vans did a great job decorating the space for the screening. There were posters everywhere.

The event was well attended, with faces from the band scene mingling together with artists and other indie cliques.

Vans No Room For Rockstars is definitely worth a look and it’s currently at the top of the iTunes documentaries chart.

If you miss checking out live indie bands in a gritty no-frills setting, Hidden Agenda is worth the trip. Have a look at their site and see who’s performing next!

RAMSAY STRUTS HIS STEAK

Yelly television chef Gordon Ramsay was at his eponymous steakhouse inside Paris Las Vegas today to give a cooking demonstration. By “cooking demonstration” we assume it means “calling his sous chef’s mother a whore for 25 straight minutes.” And then also there was steak.
